The Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness was created in 1812 by Frederich Mohs, a
German mineralogist. To devise this scale, he selected ten
minerals that were common or readily available. The only problem with this is that the scale is not linear, however, it is still
the most common scale of mineral hardness in use even in more modern times.
