Great Tips and Tricks for Traveling With Your Jewelry
I generally wear much of what I will be taking with me while traveling to the destination, which helps simplify things a great deal. A pair of hoops with my diamond studs in my ears, a pendant necklace, small bangles and my wrist watch plus the rings that really never come off my fingers, are all items that can be worn for many situations from the travel days to dinners out, visiting and sight-seeing if necessary. I could probably stop right there and be just "fine" but who wants to wear the same thing the entire trip?
As a rule of thumb
I pack at least one statement necklace, a jangly charm bracelet, a wide cuff
bracelet and 2 or 3 different pairs of earrings. This is, of course, is
dependent upon how long a trip I will be on. An overnight or weekend
trip would mean what I was wearing would probably suffice but I have been known
to over pack on more than one occasion!

I think the most important thing that I do is
leave anything that I would be devastated to lose at home and also to make sure
items are secured in a hotel safe once at my destination if I cannot carry
them with me. This wonderful
locking travel case by Master Lock is both pretty yet sturdy. You can use it
for your jewelry and even your cell phone and other smaller items. This is
really a great idea for times when you don't have a hotel safe available to you
and must keep your jewelry on your person while traveling.
How to pack your jewelry is another thing to think through before
the big travel day. I have used many things over the years, before I was lucky
enough to find a pretty vintage jewelry box that I now use. These included
small zipper bags, straws for chain necklaces, pill cases, craft storage boxes, an
index card with earrings poked through and even a hard eyeglass case . There are wonderful kits and accessories made especially for this purpose though and you may want to find one to your liking
I really love this green and pink case that has room for all you
need and will keep things from tangling with snap holders plus 3 zippered
pockets for smaller items. What I like most is the satin lining. I really
prefer cloth to the plastic that so many kits come with so this is another item
that is not only pretty but truly functional. It could be used either solo or
with the Master Lock case featured above.
Something else you
may want to consider is insuring your jewelry. While travel insurance is often
available I personally have found that a policy through either my renters or
homeowners insurance is both prudent and much more cost effective overall.
Historically, the bulk of my travel has been utilitarian, so jewelry was pretty much what I wore … with, maybe, an extra set of earrings tossed into my toiletry bag. But I recall packing for a couple of cruises, back in the day, and always bringing my faux pearls-n-such for those dressy-uppy moments.
ReplyDeleteThen you surely must "need" to take some special time now that some of that utilitarian travel is behind you. I know a great dog sitter! lol
DeleteI was lucky enough to be gifted a travel jewelry bag similar to the one you show. I'm an earring junkie and unless it is a quick day or two away always bring several pairs with me and a matching necklace or two. Love tips on the rest as well.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it helpful! How wonderful to be gifted such a lovely item. :) Lucky you!
