Yummy angora socks were 1 item in last month's box! |
The subscription boxes have been received so well, and for this I am truly grateful. The shows I have been doing have been less than spectacular and I have come to believe that they are just not where I want to be any longer. I will still have items available through my Etsy shop, my own site (an amazing upgrade will be coming in 2017!) and via appointment at my studio plus through the subscription service but my days of lugging and building and traveling all over for shows is pretty much over. That is not to say that I will never do a show again but they will be very few and far between.
All these revelations have probably been a long time coming but when you are running about like a headless chicken, it gives you very little time to sit in contemplation of what is really going on or even how you feel.
I was forced to do more of that contemplation and feeling in recent months when my fibromyalgia flared up after a week long show in August. That was followed by a severe MRSA infection of my hand in the fall that caused a lot of damage and needed 4 rounds of antibiotics to subdue. Once that was finished I was off to another large week long event in Maryland where my husband and I both concluded we just needed to get off the Merry-go-Round of shows because they are too much for us to handle. I am not the spring chicken I once was!
Chickens…seems to be a theme of some kind here…
So this month is one that I am usually geared up and ready to run, run, run to 2-3 shows a week and for the first time in more years than I care to admit I am not running. It is unheard of and while I will miss seeing some of my wonderful customers it is something I really need to do for my health and sanity.
I have opened a popup store downstairs from my studio this year at 36 Main Street in Torrington. I am in the historic Allen building which is a beautiful Art Deco building located in our lovely downtown and will be open on Saturdays from 9-5, during the Dec 15th events in the evening that are happening in town, plus by appointment for those who need to come at other times.
I am really happy with how it has turned out and hope people will take the time to come and visit. I have lots of items that I have marked down by as much as 75% off my regular prices and will have specials each Saturday that change. I am offering a drop off service for our local food pantry, coupons for the subscription boxes plus lots of other surprises. Downtown is always such a fun place to visit and there is always something happening at the galleries across the street from me, The Performance Hub Foundation, The Nutmeg Ballet Company and The Warner Theater to name a few. There are also wonderful little shops all up and down our main street and throughout the downtown so I hope you will come and visit.
