Recently, I was asked if I really made all the jewelry I sell....

via Instagram

Why, yes! Yes I do. See my hands? They are covered in the resin that I also created. Working on handmade items can be a messy business but it is so worth the effort!

That being said: I see so much fraud in the handmade world today. Especially with jewelry.  Cheap junk imports that people pretend to make themselves.  I would estimate that almost half the "designers" out there participate in some kind of fraud. It may be "only" one or two of their items but they are still doing it and I get pretty upset about the whole thing.

Here at DHD that will NEVER happen. No way, no how. If I did not make an item I carry I tell you straight because I treat everyone like I would want to be treated. I come from that old school of belief that you should really do what you say and be honest as the day is long. Always.

I understand I can't be the only person you ever come to for everything. Just do me a favor and check out whoever you are buying from, especially online. If you have never seen their work in progress be sceptical! Ask them where they source their materials, how long they have been creating and other questions until you feel comfortable that they are making what they say they are.

A New Project! Artist Relocation: Torrington!

Because I am never busy enough (ha ha ha!) or perhaps because I just can't say no when I am approached by someone with a really amazing idea I am starting to work on a new project with the wonderful Ed Jaffe.

Getting Down and Dirty

I would be getting down and dirty just like Esther The Wonder Pig if the weather in northwest CT would warm up some more. It has been so cold here-especially at night! We are having temps that are more in line with January than late March. So much for that whole "in like a lion and out like a lamb" thing that March's claim to fame.  I will have to keep dreaming  of digging in the dirt while the snow keeps going away slowly but surely.

If you're not dirty, you're not playing hard enough!
Click here to see Esther's site and give her a little love while you are there. :)

The good news is my tomato plants that are here in the studio window are coming up and

Magical Thinking and Hope

My husband and his brother Jere
Today was kind of a mish-mash of things and doings. We are in Florida visiting my husband Leo's brother  who is now in hospice. While I like Jere, I have to admit it is hard to see him looking so frail and seeing how this hurts my husband. We have been told several times that "this will probably be the last time you see him" but he keeps defying the odds, beating both Alzheimer's and cancer at the same time. It is pretty amazing in many ways yet still sad in others.

Life Happens

So here I am again, after too long a period of time! I was doing OK for a minute or two and then "life" happened. It is said that, "Life happens when you are making other plans"
and that seems to be the case for me! Does it happen to you too? I know it does!
